A fully funded PhD scholarship exists in any area of Mechanics of Materials. Some suggested research areas can be found at

The scholarship will cover all University fees and a maintenance allowance of at least £14,777 per year. The scholarship is endowed in honour of Prof M F Ashby, and students from all over the world are eligible to apply.

The successful applicant will have a 1st class degree (and ideally a Masters degree) in an appropriate field. The precise topic of the PhD can be fixed after the scholarship has been awarded.
