Job description:

The Department of Cardiovascular and Renal Research, Institute of Molecular Medicine, invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor in cardiovascular and/or renal physiology.

The successful candidate holds preferably an MD or equivalent in biological/pharmaceutical sciences and a PhD.

Major research areas of the Department are regulation of blood pressure, NaCl and water balance, resistance vessel function, renal epithelial function and mechanisms of hypertension and hypertensive organ damage.

The teaching commitment will be in physiology and pharmacology as specified below. The candidate must be able to supervise and support medical and PhD research students.

The successful candidate will be offered start-up financing.

Research profile and tasks:

The main task for the associate professor will be to establish a group that can strengthen biomedical and experimental research in the field of cardiovascular or renal physiology/ pathophysiology at the University of Southern Denmark.

A profile where translational research is part of the portfolio is valued and close collaboration with the nearby Odense University Hospital is encouraged. OUH is the major hospital in the region (population base of 1,5 million) responsible for diagnosis and treatment within all specialities. Collaboration with other groups within the Institute of Molecular Medicine is encouraged.

Research Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold an MD, a pharmaceutical degree, or equivalent in biological sciences, a PhD, must have proven postdoctoral training, teaching and supervising experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications.

Teaching commitments:

The main teaching commitments will be in physiology and pharmacology depending on the individual profile. The successful applicant will be responsible for courses for medical students. He /she will be involved in teaching physiology and pharmacology to medical and other students at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The candidate is expected to mentor graduate and PhD students pursuing their Master’s degree and PhD.

Teaching qualifications:

The candidate is expected to possess teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained as an assistant professor (“adjunct”).
