Applications are invited for a full-time position in the Caldas Laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (CRUK-CI) as a bioinformatician. Led by Prof. Carlos Caldas, the group is involved in world leading clinical and laboratory research into breast cancer, and is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team, including oncologists, pathologists, biologists, computational scientists, statisticians and laboratory staff.

During the last years, the lab has redefined this disease as a constellation of at least 11 genomic driver-based subtypes1, with different molecular profiles and patient prognosis2. This new molecular taxonomy of breast cancer is being translated into the clinic in stratification, tumour monitoring3 and therapy studies. In parallel we are developing pre clinical models4 to characterize the biology of these subtypes. We are trying to identify new biomarkers outside of exonic regions. We want to look at the effect of mutations in promoter regions, quantifying different types of structural variations and developing signatures of genomic instability using whole genome sequencing.

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD or Ms in Bioinformatics, Statistics or Computational Biology with experience in Next Generation Sequencing data analysis. The successful candidate will work on refining pipelines for analysis of high- throughput data, applying existing algorithms for estimation of intratumoral heterogeneity as well as developing new approaches and models. R/Bioconductor proficiency is required.

Due to the nature of the lab as a multidisciplinary team, a cooperative approach to working is needed for this position.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
