The Department of Psychiatry is looking for a Clinical Research Associate to join the team in Autumn 2019. The applicant will be a key part of a set of integrated studies of work exploring the impact of environmental, pharmacological and interoceptive manipulations on brain responses with a view to understanding how perception, learning and decision-making processes, particularly in relation to food, are shaped by bodily processes.

The post is ideally suited to a clinician who wishes to gain valuable research experience in the fields of interoception, appetite and computational psychiatry. Previous research experience is not necessary.

The successful individual will have a key role in providing medical cover for cognitive and neuroimaging studies of healthy controls and patients with a range of eating-related problems, including those who have experienced gastrectomy and those with monogenic obesity syndromes. The role will involve working with a team of clinical and non-clinical researchers. The appointed person should be willing to get involved in recruitment and testing of participants as well as ensuring good medical monitoring and care during each volunteer's participation. A knowledge of Good Medical Practice will be expected and other necessary training will be provided.

The work is supported by a Wellcome Investigator award to the PI (Fletcher) and aims to use innovative cognitive measurements within a computationally-informed framework. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play an active practical part in this research programme, thereby gaining useful research experience, working in a newly-built unit optimised to acquiring these measurements. Concurrent functional neuroimaging studies will also be carried out and the appointees will play a role in these studies.

Applicants will have a medical degree and should be interested in expanding their research experience by providing the medical support for planned studies and, proactively becoming involved in the data analysis and interpretation. General Medical Council registration or ability to obtain registration before job commencement is required.
