The Chair of Climatology (Prof. Dr. Cyrus Samimi) and the Chair of Plant Ecology (Prof. Dr. Steven Higgins) at the University of Bayreuth is offering a PostDoc position for four years to be filled as soon as possible. The salary is in accordance with the German Public Service salary scale (E13 TV-L).

The position is in the project Socio-ecological drivers of movements into and out of African Woodlands which is a project in the Cluster of Excellence Africa Multiple at the University of Bayreuth. The successful candidate will primarily contribute to the modelling of the nexus between environmental and socioeconomic/ political processes and migration on a regional and local scale in Southern Africa. Part of the modelling process is the transdisciplinary reflection of the modelling approach in the study region. The candidate will be expected to conduct social-ecological field surveys, which will require multiple extended stays in the South African project region.


  • active participation in activities of the research labs and of the Cluster of Excellence
  • research on socio-ecological modelling of meso to local scale processes
  • field surveys in the project region
  • presentation of research results at conferences and in scientific articles
  • supervision of MSc and PhD students within the project


  • excellent PhD in a relevant subject
  • competence in modelling, preferably experience in socio-ecological modelling
  • research experience documented by scientific articles
