A post-doctoral Research Associate or Research Assistant position in Ultra-High Field Neuroimaging is available to work at the Adaptive Brain Lab, Univ of Cambridge, UK in collaboration with Chris Rodgers' 7T MRI Physics team at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (WBIC) in Cambridge.

We have a wealth of equipment available for 7T MRI research in Cambridge. Our Siemens 7T Terra MRI scanner was installed in 2016. It runs the latest VE12U software, including the new single-host parallel transmit concept, which we are actively using for volunteer studies. We have 1H coils for scanning the brain (1Tx 32-channel Rx Nova and 8Tx 32Rx Nova) and knee, and eight different multinuclear coils for brain and body studies. We are embedded within Addenbrooke's Hospital, directly adjacent to neuro-critical-care, giving outstanding access to relevant patient cohorts. We have close collaborative links with the other UK 7T sites in Oxford, Nottingham, Cardiff, Glasgow and London.

The successful applicant will gain experience developing novel methods for ultra high-field 7T imaging in close collaboration with Chris Rodgers. They will play a key role in enabling new developments in Ultra-high field neuroimaging at the interface between two research groups (7T MRI group, Adaptive Brain Lab). They will also help the 7T MRI Physics group develop protocols and data analysis pipelines relevant to other users of the facility. Key interests for 7T MRI in Cambridge include cognitive neuroscience, and clinical applications in dementia, stroke, head injury, and neurodevelopment. Particular applications of 7T MRI in Cambridge so far include layer-resolved functional imaging, high-resolution structural imaging and neurotransmitter spectroscopy. For example, we are interested in developing more advanced methods for spectroscopic imaging in the brain; or using the 7T Terra's excellent parallel transmit capabilities to study deep brain structures, and their functional connectivity to the cortex; or in improving methods for imaging patients who are prone to motion; or other innovative method-development projects.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.

Applicants should have a PhD, Masters and/or First Degree, or will be able to apply for the PhD programme in Cambridge, together with a strong academic track record in a relevant area (e.g., physics, chemistry, or engineering, or in another subject that provides a solid grounding in MR physics). Experience with pulse sequence programming, experience with high-field neuroimaging and a working knowledge of MRI/MRS physics are preferable. You must be able to pass the safety screening to work in the 7T MRI scanner environment. Prior programming experience is highly desirable and willingness to learn computer programming in C++, Matlab and Python is essential.
