A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Experimental Gas Turbine Combustion.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are to perform experimental research in gas turbine combustion. The role includes close collaboration with Rolls-Royce, regular presentations and reports writing, as well as the development of new combustion rigs and the measurement of flame properties with laser systems in practical and academic burner geometries.

The successful candidate must have a very good knowledge of laser diagnostics, swirl spray flames, experimental rig design, Health & Safety issues, and extensive experience in working in collaborative projects and with industry.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD in experimental gas turbine combustion or a closely related field. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942; Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
