Starting from £33,797, rising to £40,322 GBP

Applications are invited for an EPSRC-funded 36 month postdoctoral position to work in the group of Professor Mike Whittlesey in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bath on the development of transition metal-main group metal (TM-M') heterobimetallic complexes for stoichiometric and catalytic small molecule activation (see: J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016, 138, 11081; Chem. Eur. J. 2018, 24, 1732).

Experimental work in Bath will run in parallel with computational studies with Professor Stuart Macgregor at Heriot-Watt University.

You should have a PhD in synthetic organometallic/transition metal/main-group metal chemistry, and have experience of manipulating air-sensitive complexes. A sound knowledge of reaction mechanisms, NMR techniques and X-ray crystallography is also highly desirable.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Mike Whittlesey (, however, please ensure that your application is submitted via the University website.
